Minister of State for Mines and Steel, Gbemisola Saraki, is wooing YPP’s governorship candidate Yakubu Gobir to step down for her anointed PDP candidate Yaman Abdullahi in Kwara State.
The minister met with Gobir in his residence in Ilorin to persuade him to work for the PDP.
The visit was announced on social media and sources at the meeting said the minister’s visit was premised on winning Gobir to the PDP.
Gbemi Saraki, despite serving as a minister under Buhari, has refused to show support for APC in the 2023 general elections.
She was however seen making moves to meet PDP national assembly candidates, including Ibrahim Ajia and Wahab Issa, in what has been described as a solidarity for them.
“It’s no longer hidden that Gbemi Saraki is working with PDP in this election. Her candidate for the governorship election is Yaman Abdullahi. There are claims that she influenced the choice of Yaman as PDP flagbearer,” our source said.
“She has been in Ilorin for sometime making moves to woo people to support the PDP candidate. She visited one of the gubernatorial candidates Yakubu Gobir of YPP to plead with him to step down for Yaman Abdullahi.”
It is not clear yet if Gobir would accede to Gbemi Saraki’s request by stepping down for Yaman.
The governorship polls will come up in a matter of days, as it is slated for March 11. It will hold concurrently with the state assembly election.
